Order of Malta Clinic participates in World Health Celebration

Order of Malta Clinic participates in World Health Celebration

On April 10, the Order of Malta Medical Clinic participated in the World Health Celebration held at the Centro Convensaun Dili (Convention Centre).

The event was organised by the Timor-Leste Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization and was attended by staff from various government offices, various health NGOs, nursing and medical students and staff from the national hospital.

The day was divided into two parts: conference and launching of the book on Timor-Leste Statistics published by the Ministry of Finance in the morning, and in the afternoon, Health Exposition participated by various local and international Health NGO, including UNICEF, WFP, national hospital and St. John of God.

We participated by providing a CPR demonstration and offered attendees free Diabetes (random hemo-glucose test) and Hypertension Screening. 56 attendees took up the offer of screen and as a result 10 individuals returned results of elevated blood pressure and 1 with high blood sugar levels. These patients were advised by our doctors on the steps to take, with special emphasis on making a follow-up with their preferred doctors.

Our staff also distributed information and education materials on diabetes, hypertension and scabies as well as information on the Order of Malta and our projects worldwide.

The day ended as it started, with a prayer; and our fantastic team from the clinic worked dynamically to make our participation a success.
