Medical Mission in Hera

Medical Mission in Hera

On the 15 September, staff from the Order of Malta Medical Clinic attended an outreach clinic at the Escola Dominicana in Hera.

The mission was made possible through the clinic’s collaboration with Sr. Elsie Bagaypo (local superior for the Dominican Nuns), Hearing First Steps through Barbara Knight, and Telkomcel, who provided 150 Hygiene Kits that were distributed to parents who attended the Health Education session, and other children.

Clinic staff attended to 168 children and 72 adults. Children were screened for malnutrition, many were treated for scabies and provided with appropriate medication, and those evaluated with ear problems were referred to HFS. The adults were evaluated for hypertension and diabetes. There were approximately 50 individuals treated with scabies, 6 screened with yypertension and 3 with diabetes.

The activity was by far the biggest community outreach activity for our clinic staff so far and we thank all those who generously supported this initiative.
